HYPNOSIS AND WEIGHT CONTROL

Are you 100 pounds overweight or just 5 pounds? The amount doesn't really matter, as quite often the causes are the same: Self-image, security, reward, love - or the lack of it. Many women, and men, find themselves putting on excess weight as a subconscious protection from future relationships, so as to protect themselves from getting hurt emotionally one more time. They're not overweight because they eat too much, but eat too much because of other subconscious, emotional reasons. Many of these lay just below the surface of our conscious recognition, while others are part of our consciousness but we still don't know how to change them.

SECURITY/REWARD

Sometimes early childhood experiences set us up for future problems. I have had many students that were skinny and even sickly infants or children, the entire family all the while, telling them for years, "If you’d just eat more you'd look so much prettier or be so much healthier." Years pass, they have a bout with illness or something that affects their self-image and they find themselves with weight problems.

Many a loving mother showed her affection by making sure there was plenty of food on the table. When you have a problem you can almost hear Mom saying "tough day, honey? How about a piece of cake? It’ll make you feel better!"

I had a student who lived in a tough neighborhood as a boy. He was overweight but it became his reputation. "Don't mess with Jim, he's bad! He can really throw his weight around!"

I had a very competent secretary as a student who worked hard–really ran the office with seemingly no recognition for her efforts. As soon as she got home at night she couldn't seem to eat enough candy, Ho-Ho's, and donuts. After all, it was her only reward for working so hard.

My research shows me that people who tend toward large quantities are looking for security, while those who tend to indulge themselves in sweets are aiming for rewards. Of course, there are many that do both.

TREATING THE CAUSE

Our emphasis at MIND is not diet oriented. I feel that a diet is only treating the symptom. Quite often, as soon as you quit the diet, the pounds come right back on. We help you change your eating patterns so that when you get hungry it is for smaller quantities of slimming and trimming foods.

Self-hypnosis is a technique that allows you to retrain these old, outdated belief systems and program in ones that work for you:

  • Achieve a healthy weight and maintain it through the process of a self-help program
  • Allow the student to more clearly define their weight goals in a realistic manner
  • Supply students with a specific course of action to maintain such results
  • Address the issues that cause weight problems such as eating patterns and habits
  • Encourage proper types of foods in proper quantities and not eating for emotional reasons
  • Learn techniques to improve self-image while working towards target weight
  • Promote stress reduction as a means of improved total health and well being

When I eat, I eat because my body needs the nutrition, not because of my emotional attitudes.

I am able to bring love, security and reward more directly into my life and not use food instead.

I no longer need to feel heavy, stuffed and bloated to feel satisfied, taking my time as I eat, chewing each bite 20 to 30 times and finding smaller amounts satisfying to me!

Combine a good exercise program with caring supervision and you can lose that weight and firm that body, build up your energy level and change for the better your conscious and subconscious self image!

GOALS FOR WEIGHT
  1. "I'm finding it easy" to stay away from fattening foods, such as pies, cakes, all sweets & refined sugar, fried foods, etc.

BE SPECIFIC

  1. "I'm really going to enjoy healthier foods" like:
  • Salads, fruits, lean meats, poultry, fresh fish, vegetables.
  • Fruit juices.

  1. Smaller & smaller quantities are satisfying to me. I no longer need to feel stuffed & bloated to feel satisfied.
  2. When I eat, I eat because my body needs nutrition–not because of my emotional attitude.
  3. I am becoming more self-confident!
WEIGHT AND EXERCISE

Fat cells store fat. Exercise causes the fat cells to go to the muscle cells where fat can be burned up. It also takes sugar, which is also stored some in the muscle cells, and oxygen, which enters through the blood stream to the muscle cells to burn up the fat cells. So three things are needed in the muscle to reduce fat cells: Oxygen, Sugar and Fat. If the sugar or oxygen are depleted before the fat the fat won't burn - it will cause lactic acid to build up instead- you get that burning feeling in muscles.

If you are overly tired or only use small muscles which are limited in both sugar & oxygen, less fat can be released.

It is suggested that using the big muscles is a superior approach. It was also suggested any exercise you do that allows you to continue talking without leaving you completely breathless is a good criteria to judge if your not overtaxing the system.

Over–training is also not recommended. If you are continuing to make progress or stay the same you're probably all right but ,if you start getting weaker, results it may mean you're over-trained, which means the liver and the rest of the body which repairs muscle tissue at night when you sleep is unable to keep up and the muscle cells are not able to crank out the quality of results they had previously been able to. i.e., Over–trained.

Can you talk at the same time Sugar & Fat & oxygen use the big muscles?

Sugar and oxygen are needed to burn fat. A reliable measure of the proper level of activity necessary to use the big muscles is when you can jog or walk and talk at the same time.

  • Walking - 40 minutes
  • Jogging - 15 minutes
